INFORMATION

Blue Tide Aquatics is a nationally-recognized swim club located in northeast Houston, TX. Founded in 1980, Blue Tide is the oldest and most-established swim club in the area.

Blue Tide is a Bronze Medal and Level 4 USA Swimming affiliated club and is a member of Gulf Swimming, one of five Texas Local Swimming Committees (LSCs). Blue Tide is a member of the Texas Swimming Association, which oversees the Texas State Age Group Championships (TAGS) and the Texas Senior Circuit.

Blue Tide’s membership lives primarily in the northeast Houston communities of Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita. The majority of our swimmers ages 5-18 attend schools in the Humble Independent School District. Many of our senior swimmers are also members of the Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School and Atascocita High School swim teams. We conduct a Master’s Swim Program for adults and the SPLASH, learn-to-competitive swim program.

All of our coaches, as members of the American Swim Coaches Association, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time.

Blue Tide Aquatics, a 501(c)3 non profit club, is run by its elected Board of Directors which meets each month. All members are welcome at each meeting and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fundraisers.

Blue Tide swimmers work hard, but have fun too: at team banquets, team parties and annual summer travel trips outside the Houston area. In 2008 and 2006, the team attended the 2008 SPEEDO International Age Group Invitational at Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex. The team has also traveled to Brownsville Aquatics Invitational swim meet in South Padre Island, TX, and the Tom Lalor Invitational Swim Meet in Pensacola, FL.

We are constantly growing and training young swimmers to maintain a well rounded competitive swim team. Thank you for joining us. We are looking forward to meeting you. Please feel free to ask another member or coach any question you may have.  ROLL TIDE!

BTA Mission Statement: "The Mission of Blue Tide Aquatics is to promote and create an environment in which every swimmer, regardless of ability, is encouraged to meet his/her potential in swimming through a planned progression of learning objectives and skill groups. These include goal setting, life skills, and the pursuit of excellence."

WHAT WE'RE PROUD OF:

  • BTA would like to recognize and congratulate the following swimmers for their Top 10 national performances this past year!  Matt Barber, Madeline Hazle, Jordan Jones, and Jillian Vitarius.
  • Our coaches have guided our swimmers to three Texas Age Group Swimming (TAGS) state titles: 2002 Short Course, 2002 Long Course and 2006 Short Course Championships.
  • Blue Tide's senior swimmers finished first in both the men's and combined scores at the 2003 National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior Championships.
  • Blue Tide has developed numerous state title and state record holders in the 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18 age groups. In addition, Blue Tide swimmers hold several current national age group records: Ben Decker 13-14 200 Y breaststroke (2:02.89) and 100 Y breaststroke (56.60); Paul Kornfeld 15-16 200 Y breaststroke (1:58.14) and 17-18 200 Y breaststroke (154.41) and 100Y breaststroke (53.32).

In 2008, Jordan Jones, Jillian Vitarius and Sydney Conroy were members of the USA Swimming Select Camp and Matt Barber was selected to the World Youth Games.  In 2009, Madeline Hazle was selected to the Zones Select Camp camp as well as being named to the 2009 National Select Camp along with Jordan Jones.  The National Select Camp is comprised of only 60 swimmers from the United States, and BTA has TWO!  Matt Barber is making a second appearance to the USA National Junior team traveling to Stockholm and Berlin for the International Grand Prix this fall.
  • Most of our high school graduates continue swimming at the collegiate level.
  • One current and four former Blue Tide swimmers participated in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials: Matt Barber, Scott Sorge, Melissa Hain, Glenn Counts and Brad Raiford. Three former BTA swimmers participated in the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials: Paul Kornfeld, Lauren Grandy and Eric Olesen.
  • More proud moments for 2009 include Jillian Vitarius and Matt Barber qualifying and competing at the US World Championship trials.  Matt was the top 18 and under swimmer in two events!  Jillian was also chosen to attend the National Select camp for the US.  The pair are reigning NCSA Junior National Champions.

IT'S NOT ALL SWIMMING: Blue Tide swimmers work hard, but have fun too: at team banquets, team parties and annual summer travel trips outside the Houston area. In 2008 and 2006, the team attended the 2008 SPEEDO International Age Group Invitational at Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex. Team History

Kingwood Blue Tide Aquatics was founded in October, 1980 with approximately thirty swimmers.  The team’s first practices were held outdoors in the Forest Cove pool, but were later moved to the Kingwood High School pool. In 1982, the team’s name was shortened to Blue Tide Aquatics, but the 1984-85 season saw another change as BTA became affiliated with the Spring and Klein area teams to form Aqua-Tex, enabling the team to be more competitive in the Houston swimming community.

Due to the large number of swimmers registering with ATEX-BTA, it was decided in March 1991, by a vote of the general membership, to return to independent status as Blue Tide Aquatics.  In order to accommodate the growing program, BTA expanded into the Humble High School pool in 1994, the Riverchase community pool in 1997, the YMCA pool in 1999, and the Atascocita Country Club pool in 2004.

BTA swimmers have excelled in local, state, and national competition over the past several years including winning the short course and long course Texas Age Group Championships in 2002, Junior National Championships in 2003 and 2004 and Texas Age Group Championships again in the Spring of 2006.

Head Coach Kevin Milak was hired as Assistant Head Coach in 2006, and was named Head Coach in May of 2007.

Head Coach Charlie Fry was hired in 2010.  Under the direction and guidance of Coach Charlie and the most professional coaching staff in the area, Blue Tide is entering an exciting time. Blue Tide athletes of all ages and abilities can achieve their goals and take pride in being part of a "culture of success" in the years to come, not only in the water, but in the classroom and in our community.

Blue Tide Aquatics was incorporated under the laws of the state of Texas in 1996 and is now officially known as "Blue Tide Aquatics, Inc." or "BTA".
