Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
July 28, 2008
7:00 PM
Members Present: Rob Scheuer, Linda Dalton, Kevin Milak, John Swank, Bill Conroy, Rick Alspaugh, Karie Sommers, Melissa Sturgis
Coaches Report: Six BTA swimmers were selected for Zones (Reed and Evan Dalton, Jillian Vitarius, Jordan Jones, Rachel McKenzie, and Thomas Corey).
The team earned 5th place at TAGS. Fourteen kids attended Sectionals – eight on travel trip. Matt Barber is going to Jr. Nationals.
New coaches – The Board offered a job to Jennie Shamburger but she took a position at TWST. Mark Krimm has accepted to coach part-time Typhoon and Tidalwave along with Ty Gaston who has been a SPLASH instructor. A “Now Hiring” ad has been posted on swim websites for a developmental coach.
VP Report: John is going to meet directors’ training in late August. He needs to find an assistant meet director to bring along. Kevin suggested that Josh should go to the training to help his development.
Rick: He said he received a swimsuit education from Emily. The new team suits will be
available to try on at registration and to order. The girls have two styles: wide and lingerie straps. The all navy team suit will be personalized with the Blue Tide logo. We will stay with TYR. They have better quality and service.
Rick asked whether we need BTA t-shirts for all swimmers at registration noting that
in the past they have just been for new swimmers. The group agreed on t-shirts (grey with block blue lettering) just for new swimmers at registration. There was discussion whether new swimmer parents should receive t-shirts, but it was decided that just the swimmer
will get a free one. Karie will coordinate with Angela ordering caps to give away to
the new swimmers as well.
Rob: He said that Blue Tide has signed off on the lease with Humble ISD. We have also renewed the YMCA lease.
Bill: The IRS return was sent in. Yanli Lu has agreed to replace Sharon Dunn
on direct debits.
Rob: Rob noted that BTA needs to cash meet checks quicker. He offered to streamline the procedures.
Bill: Requested that a parent be assigned to him as a bookkeeper to collect checks, endorse and tally them. He will reinstate the drop box at KHS.
Rob: Presented a dues analysis including competitive rates.
Kevin: Recommended that the rates be pared down for the youngest swimmers to
“get them in the water.” He then suggested a new category: Senior Elite with Sectionals cuts and above. He has done an elite group in the past. Swimmers must agree to not miss
practices and are held accountable. A $145 per month rate was suggested. A Senior Two for other high school swimmers and a Senior One for middle school swimmers will
replace National and Senior Blue.
Kevin suggested that annual contracts should not just be available at the beginning of the
school year. The group agreed to allow swimmers to contract at an annual rate through
the end or February.
Rob: Suggested adding a $10 discount for a second swimmer in the family. The board
decided on: $10 off second swimmer, $20 third and $30 off a fourth.
Karie: Announced a new member: Sarah Braden, Senior Orange. Karie outlined the plans for fall registration and sign up Aug. 26 and 28 at KHS.
Linda: She detailed the marketing plan for registration including newspaper ads,
Humble ISD fliers and news releases. Rob will retro-fit BTA signs with the
registration information and post them along the streets of Kingwood the
week of registration.
Rob: Announced the Sept. 5th Annual Business Meeting / Orientation/ and Mixer
at Kingwood Country Club 7-9 p.m. He said that the Long Course party will be
Sept. 13 at ACC.
John Hazle and John Swank have recommended Bylaw revisions. Rob suggested that the revised Bylaws be sent out to the membership one week prior to the parent meeting so they can be reviewed and voted upon at the meeting – article by article.
Next Board Meeting: Tues., Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at ACC |
